Ijazah course
What Is an Ijazah and Why Is It Important?
The Ijazah is an esteemed certification that grants its holder formal permission to recite and teach the Holy Qur’an with proper Tajweed. Its primary purpose is to preserve the authenticity of Qur’anic transmission by establishing a continuous and verified chain of reciters that traces back to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Understanding Ijazah
Linguistically, the word Ijazah means “authorization,” “permission,” or “license.” In the Islamic scholarly context, it refers to a formal endorsement that permits a qualified individual to transmit or teach a specific text—in this case, the Holy Qur’an.
Earning an Ijazah affirms that the student has learned directly from a certified teacher and is now authorized to pass that knowledge on to others with the same level of accuracy and care.
Types of Qur’an Ijazah
There are two main types of Ijazah in Qur’anic studies:
Ijazah in Qur’an Recitation with Tajweed:
Granted to students who recite the entire Qur’an accurately from the Mushaf while applying all Tajweed rules correctly.Ijazah in Qur’an Memorization (Hifz):
Awarded to students who have memorized the entire Qur’an and are able to recite it fluently by heart in front of a qualified teacher. Why Pursue an Ijazah Course?
An Ijazah signifies a high level of mastery and dedication. It verifies that the student has studied directly under an authorized teacher, learning every verse accurately and applying Tajweed with precision. This isn’t just a personal achievement—it allows the holder to teach others and pass on the Ijazah themselves, contributing to the continued preservation of the Holy Qur’an.
